SPMB4000LPTX 4000 mAh LIPO does not fit the DX7s
Can someone help me here? I'm replacing the stock battery with the SPMB4000LPTX. Problem is, you cannot close the battery lid. Do I remove the foam at the base of the battery compartment?

Yes you can use this battery for the DX9. When I got my DX9 I had this in my DX8 and decided not to sell it with the 8. I had to take out the back piece of foam in order for the battery to fit, but it works like a dream.

When you first install the lipo battery, you have to go into settings and set the radio to lipo batteries. Once this is set, the radio can accommodate the different voltage. The radio also has an automatic cutoff when the lipo is charged.

Just plug the battery into the radio without charging, make the change and then charge

If it drops below 8 volts I charge the battery. You might be able to go as low as 7.6, but I haven't had the nerve to try it.

The LiPo has to first be installed in the radio before it will permit you to change the battery type to LiPo

I believe you have to plug in the LIPO first, then it will allow you to select battery type. Be sure to charge it fully before you put it in your transmitter. Your charge light on your transmitter will go out when it is fully charged.

This battery can be charged while installed in the DX8 or DX7s transmitter. Here is an excerpt from the DX8 manual:

"With the transmitter power turned off, plug the included 12 volt power supply into a wall outlet. Then plug the male charge plug into the charge jack. The blue LED on the front of the transmitter will illuminate. When charging the optional SPMB4000LPTX, a full charge can take up to 30hrs depending on the initial charge state of the battery. When charging a LiPo, the blue light will turn off when the charge cycle is complete."

In addition to the manual instructions (plug-in, charge until blue charging light turns off) you have to set battery type to "LIPO" by turning on the transmitter with the scroll wheel depressed. This will take you (by scrolling) to the configuration menu to make your selection (LIPO). Then go back to MAIN screen and enter (depress scroll wheel) to save your changes.

The battery charges just fine in the transmitter. When inserting for the first time, you also have to remove the foam that was around the NICAD and the foam behind it so the fit in the compartment isn't too tight.

Yes, you can. The Horizon Hobby Lipo has circuitry in it to prevent overcharge and to manage the charge current from the standard wall-wart that came with the transmitter. If you bought a non-spectrum lipo from another vendor though, it does NOT have the protective circuitry and should not be charged in the radio with the wall-wart charger.

Yes you can! Same wall charger that comes with the transmitter will charge both the stock and LIPO batteries, you just need to set the transmitter to LIPO and allow it to fully charge until the light goes off on your transmitter.

Yes you can charge it with the stock charger, I have been using it for a while now with no problems, but you do have to change the battery type in the setup on the TX. Watch the following video:
