Question
binding DXe with Spedtrum AR400
Followed binding instructions. All seems to work except rudder control. Servos check out fine when I swap them around. Throttle works fine, just no yaw input. I use the DXe with my E-flite Radian and all worked fine there when I tested all channels.

You should be able to program your transmitter to make it work on any button or switch/joystick you like but im unsure if you can get it bound alongside the 636 on the same "frequency".

It is a "Full Range" receiver. The limiting factors on distance it will work at will be the power and antena position of your transmitter as well as placement of the Rx and it's antenas in your model. Unless something is causing a signal to be blocked, you should have control about as far as you can see.

It is full range. However many things can interfere and effect how far you can reliably get with your system. If you are flying line of sight, not FPV then you should be able to get 800-1000 meters (half mile and a little more). Have a look at this RCG thread, someone said something bad about Spektrum in it but there is really nothing bad about it. Here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1598523

I don't know what it is in feet but I use it in smaller planes of about 36 to 40 inch wingspan and it is controllable as long as I can see it. I'm using a DX18.

There is a port on the receiver that is reserved for connection of the esc to that receiver. The battery would then be connected to the esc. So in essence, your battery is connected to the receiver via the esc. This is needed so that the esc can control the amount of power flowing from your battery to your motor and to the control surfaces of your plane.

The AR400 should be considered a "full range" receiver and can be used in virtually any model having up to 4 channels. Unless you have high power giant scale applications with multiple large digital servos (ie 150 oz*in torque or more) per channel, or large metal or carbon fiber components which may tend to block signal reception the AR400 will be fine.

Always perform a range check on any new model to verify reception. It is good to run gasoline ignition engines when performing this check to demonstrate a worse case scenario. If you get at least 30 paces from this range check, don't worry and go fly.

Yes, in glider model mode channels 1 and 2 become ailerons, with channels 3 and 4 elevator and rudder so you will have enough capability for flapperon control.

Question
Minimize size receiver for KUNAI instalation
I have an application that is very space limited. I would like to use a AR6100e or AR400 receiver in a Great Plains KUNAI. Installing either receiver in the hull of the plane provides interference with the control rods. Is there a smaller receiver or would removing the case to minimize the size help?

RECEIVER FAILURE IS RARE. INSPECT YOUR BINDING PLUG FOR DAMAGE. INSERT BINDING PLUG INTO FIRST PORT ON THE REC MARKED BATT/BIND . CONNECT A 5 TO 6 VOLT BATTERY INTO ANY OTHER PORT. GROUND END OF BATTERY IS AT THE EDGE OF RECEIVER CASE. THE LIGHT SHOULD FLASH FAST. PLACE TRANSMITTER ABOUT 20 INCHES FROM THE RECEIVER AND PUT TRANSMITTER INTO BINDING MODE. FLASHING SHOULD CHANGE RATE AND SHORTLY AFTER LIGHT WILL GO STEADY REMOVE BINDING PLUG. RECEIVER IS NOW BOUND. IF THIS FAILS THEN REPEAT FROM THE BEGINNING INCREASING THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TX AND THE RECEIVER. ALSO LARGE METAL ITEMS NEARBY WILL INTERFERE WITH THE BINDING PROCESS SO MOVE TO A NEW LOCATION. IF YOU CANNOT ACHIEVE BINDING THEN THE RECEIVER IS DEFECTIVE AND CAN BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. YOU MAY ALSO TRY TO FIND SOMEONE WITH MORE EXPERIENCE AT BINDING TO HELP YOU.

answer 2
G'day Mate,
Make sure the bind plug is in the BIND port, power it up, through any servo slot, & move your TX at least 10 feet away, then try & bind. Steel walls & fences can cause bind failures, but if you are far enough away from the RX, it should bind ok.

Cheers
Al.

Adaptable,

In short, yes, it is compatible with DX4e. I searched out the manual for both the AR400 and the DX4e. Neither manual calls out the other component as compatible, but both use Spektrum's DSMX technology. You shouldn't have any problems with the AR400 and your DX4e. Rock solid from what I can find, but no personal experience.
