You should be able to. It is wise to disconnect the ATC from the receiver, meaning it cannot be turned on even if the switch is flipped. You could also use the open channel (aileron) on the DX4e to control the drop module.

This super cub had ACT. I have two of these and never used the ACT. People say its not worth using because it can cause crashes. The super cub S has SAFE technology. I don't have any experience with SAFE but I have heard good things about it. I plan to get one of the new super cubs.

A number of things. The Super Cub S, has S.A.F.E technology onboard. The transmitter is a DX4e. And I believe it also has AS3X, but I could be wrong. Personally, I would go with the Super Cub S. It's a better deal.

More likely if the charger blinks it means it works. But not necessarily the case. Those batteries are very inexpensive. It wouldn't hurt to buy an extra one and try it with your charger. Most pilots have extra batteries to get more flying time flying and less time charging. If it doesn't work I suggest you get a better charger. A 50w charger, the most common one, will reduce the charge time, it's more accurate, and some models even analyze your batteries. A little investment that will improve your flying experience.

This depends on how familiar you are with the plane and how much experience you have as a pilot and it is only a 3 channel plane, If you are a beginner I wouldn't go up with more than 5mph. A gust is more dangerous than a steady wind of higher velocity.
Always land and take off into the wind and as you bank and turn across the wind you will pick up speed. Landing into the wind means you use it to slow you down for a nice soft landing.

I have flown mine in 20 plus mph winds. However it is more sensitive like that. The good news this plane can be very forgiving and will tolerate rough landings. And in the worse scenario parts are easy to find and inexpensive.

Always keep some 5 min epoxy in the tool box. Repairs are easy and in most cases it will be up in the air in minutes.

Question
Anyone think of equipping a model rocket engine to the Supercub DSM RTF?
Attaching an Estes model rocket to the center of the fuselage of the plane seems like a fun idea. Estes sells glider rocket engines to put on gliders, the A10- PT model, that do not have the recovery boom after the motor burns. They are small motors, no bigger than my thumb, and might not add a lot of thrust. But if it works i might use a larger motor even though they only make capped A size motors (no recovery boom). Id like to rig it so i can remotely trigger the motor to go off, and use the x port to send the charge to ignite the motor. Or maybe install the aileron servo and rig to to connect wires or something in the "storage compartment" in the fuselage. Its a long way from being reality, but I'm asking for any ideas, like where and how to secure/mount the motor to keep it flying level when the motor ignites. Or how to rig the wires to make it work without messing up the plane.

Super Cub always go up
When my Super Cub is up flying and I push up the throttle stick, the plane goes up so I need to apply down elevator at the same time to keep it level. I think this is no normal but I don't know the right way to fix it. Is a CG or trim problem ?.

Not necessarily a cg problem. Some wing dihedral designs make the planes climb when the wind increases. Throttle management will help. Maybe depending on what radio you are using you may mix some down elevator with throttle.

answer 2
If you have the throttle pushed all the way up, the plane will naturally climb. To have the plane cruise at one height without using the elevator much, the throttle should be at half. This will also increase the battery life significantly. If you already fly like this, and your trim is in the center, there could be wrong with your tail. If the elevator flap is parallel with the rest of the tail, however, then it isn't your tail. There could POSSIBLY be an imbalance in the plane, but that's only if you have something on the tail. (a.k.a. camera) Check to see if your tail functions correctly. If the flap is parallel to the tail when the elevator stick is in the center, then it's either a throttle issue or possibly a balance issue.

Question
Why won't my Super Cub power up?
I have a HZ SuperCub. Cracked the cowl on maiden flight and grounded it until it was repaired. After the repair, I tried to run it and it wouldn't do anything. Thought it may be the battery so I got a new one. Same deal. Plane is completely dead. Radio powers up and appears to be working fine. How do I troubleshoot? Thanks.

IN MY OPINION JUST FORWARD OF THE CG IF MOUNTING ON TOP AND JUST AFT IF MOUNTING ON THE BOTTOM.. DON'T FORGET THAT WIND SPEED WILL CAUSE DRAG AND THE ATTITUDE OF THE PLANE WILL CHANGE WHEN FLYING. YOU WANT IT AS STABLE AS POSSIBLE. YOU MAY HAVE TO TRY MOVING IT FOR BEST STABILITY WHEN YOU GET IT FLYING.

I will say the top. If you install it on the bottom there is a big chance the camera will slam on the ground on a rough landing. Whatever you decide to do, make sure the propeller is not in the way. Otherwise the quality of the video will be poor with the prop spinning in the way of the shot.

Try searching on YouTube. There are a few tutorials there about how to change the motor. The receiver is pretty simple. Just disconnect all of the wires, pop it out, put it in the new plane and reconnect the wires. Keep in mind that you will also need to move the elevator and rudder servos into the new fuselage.

"3-in-1" is helicopter terminology and doesn't apply here. The Super Cub uses a receiver/speed control combination unit. It incorporates a Spektrum 6-channel receiver and a brushed-type ESC. Here's the replacement:

Never plug in the battery in the model with the transmitter turned off. The correct order is always: transmitter on first, off last.

Also, make sure the failsafe on the receiver is set correctly. This requires that you rebind the receiver, making sure the throttle is set to full low.

Olson233, if the instructions told you not to do that, Why did you plug into that port? I am interested to hear your answer to my question? Anyway, since you did, you will need a new controller board. I think the motor might still be good. I would only replace one item at a time starting with the controller board and then work out to the motor. Again that would be worst case so take one step at a time, and you might save a little money to get this ARF flying. My final suggestion, "Read all of the instructions before you start doing anything” I do think you learned that from your current experience. "Good Flying"

Friend,

It could be one of two things. First of all, great choice for a reliable first model! Now, I had a similar issue, it could be the battery... The best thing to do is put it on a tester to make sure the cells are balanced, and/or taking a charge. Second, if you changed the prop or don't let the motor spool up slowly, the motor and esc will cut-out! This was the case with mine. I had to throttle up slowly before take-off. Horizon is amazing for replacings parts if they are faulty. I'm confident one of the two options will solve your problem.

Happy flying!

Bryan

If you are running with the stock motor it can't handle the 10X8 prop! You should be using a 9X6 or at best a 9X6.5
I have one of my cubs setup with a brush less Park 480 1020kv motor, 30amp speed controller and an APC 10x7prop with no problems, and it's really fast and can fly in the wind.
My stock Cub can't handle the (10X8) float prop with out the floats installed otherwise the voltage cutoff comes on and shuts the motor off
Also if your battery is not charging you need to replace it. Remember you should not run lipo's below 3.4 vots per cell if you do the battery will not charge up correctly and can cause a fire. Also if the battery is puffed up don't try to charge it just replace it. I also use the Battery from the Blade 300X Heli, it fits perfectly and provides more power on demand.

Question
i have installed the float sets new prop and the throttle cuts out at full throttle
new batteries, removed the wires for the ACT system, re binded it with the throttle trim in lowest position, no major crashes that would have caused damage, and when i replace the old prop the throttle works fine. is there a fail safe throttle amp draw that i could turn off (possibly in the act system), or anything else that would allow me to use the bigger prop?

unfortunately there is no separate esc onboard the supercub to trial an amp outage.. but I would say this is probably exactly what is happening to your system. I have no idea why horizon hasn't updated the super cub with real equipment yet. even a ar500 and 30 amp esc. anyways, I would suggest doing this exact upgrade.. fulll range reciever and 30amp esc will get you back up and running without any headaches. I love the super cub!, I have converted mine to brushless aswel as the above mentioned mods. If the plane has just been purchased i would contact your lhs and see if they can't help you out with something..

I have the same problem, but what seems to work for me is set the throttle trim at its lowest setting, then hold the plane and hit full throt. Then raise the trim to just below the half way point. Cut the throt back and test. I think the 10X8 prop is just a bit too much load for the motor so you have to cut back on the max rpm it will achieve at WOT. seems to work for me..

While the included DX4e can bind with any DSM2 or DSMX receiver (this includes our lineup of BNF airplanes and helicopters), there are some aircraft that it is not suited for due to the fact that it is not a programmable radio. Follow the link below to see what products you can use your DX4e with.

Try to rebind the RX and TX and make sure your throttle is in the lowest position. Also if you have a trim switch on the throttle , put that in the lowest position.

answer 2
Potentially something interfering with the motor spinning up to proper rpm. Check for hair/thread accumulation on the motor shaft.

Excess power demand on the BEC section of the ESC can cause a thermal shutdown of the motor so also check for binding in the linkages to the control surfaces.

After a few bumps into stuff the pushrods may need straightening even if the rest of the plane all looks fine. Repairs of the plane can cause control binding also.

There is a possibility that the battery is not delivering enough current. Bad connection between battery and ESC can do it.

There are many potential causes of the motor shutting down as described.

Question
Engine stopped running. No Throttle response.
All other flight controls are working fine except the engine. It just stopped while taxing around the driveway. Recharged the plane battery and fresh batteries on the handheld unit. Any recommendations?

If the Aircraft will not respond to throttle but it responds to other controls then there are several possibilities:
1) Throttle is not at idle and/or throttle trim is too high. You must reset the throttle controls with throttle stick on the Transmitter by putting the throttle trim at lowest possible setting. This would reset the control but not if the problem in #2 below.
2) Throttle channel could be reversed. Initially it will run for a very short time at low end and then quite. You might have the throttle channel setting reversed on transmitter.

3) If the Motor power pulse then loses power, the ESC uses default LVC. This is because of low power on the flight battery or the battery could be defective. Either recharge the battery and/or replace battery if the battery does not perform, as it should.

For some other probable caused refer to the manual. The above are the highest probable reasons for your stated problem.

When the battery gets to low on charge, what is called the ESC (or electric speed controller) shuts the motor down for safety purposes. What I recommend is to get a battery cell tester. This measures the voltage in each cell. With this you can help time how long to run your battery's.

answer 3
Check the motor connectors to the Electronic Speed Control (ESC). If that doesn't work, try to connect another motor that works to the ESC see if that motor works or not. If no, then it's your ESC's problem. If it's does work, your motor have some problem.
