Customer questions and answers for E-flite UMX Sbach 342 3D BNF Basic with AS3X® Technology

Question
Stock battery position.
The manual says to place the battery 20mm from the cowl for precision flight. Is this from the front where the motor is or from the back where the fuselage begins?
A little confusing since there is no traditional cowling on this plane nor firewall.

Plane seems to balance with the battery forward when balancing from front balance position.

I've flown this thing about ten times now and have started trying some advanced 3D maneuvers like knife-edge spins, blenders, harriers, etc. and the AS3X tends to interfere and tries to level out the plane all the time so it will start the maneuver and then quickly it will fall out of it as the AS3X does it's thing and fights against your control of the aircraft.

Question
which would be a better 3d plane
I've mastered the UM Spitfire and UM p-40 War hawk. I can do basic tricks such as loops rolls, and inverted flight but now it just feels routine. I want to get into 3d flying but i don't know which 3d plane to get, I'm leaning towards the UMX Beast or UMX Sbach. I'm only going to stick with the Ultra Micros since they're affordable and the park I fly at isn't so large. Any suggestions would be helpful.

You should try the UMX Yak54, I heard that plane is really good for 3D. If not the Yak54, go for the Sbach. I have the 342 and it will do 3D pretty good if you use the SFG's.

The Beast is a good choice for 3D but is not as stable in the air. If you want really tight turns and less speed then I would go with the Beast. If you want speed and aerobatics the SBach is the better choice. The SBach is also more crash friendly. I glued the same wing back on mine at least 6 or 7 times and never affected its flight. The Beast isn't so repairable.

My Sbach will exhibit elevator flutter at high speeds. The aircraft is still controllable, but the tail will oscillate up and down quite noticeably.
I have secured the U bend in the control rod from flexing, but this has not corrected the issue. Any thoughts???

This exact same thing happens to me. I think the reason for this is because either, the battery is positioned too far forward during flight, or just because the smaller streamlined wing design does not like to cooperate well with the fuselage, maybe it was a small designe flaw? It happens to me when I put it into a nose dive and pull up on full throttle. I think maybe it is a kink in the design, or a CG issue. Hope this helps!

I don't think it's intended to fly straight and level at full throttle, the extra power it has I believe is for 3D and other aerobatics. The AS3X works well at stabilizing at lower speeds. I usually fly at half to three-quarter throttle and that's plenty fast enough and the rest of the power is there when you want to climb or get out of a dicey situation. I do find that the AS3X interferes with most advanced aerobatics though because it's always trying to level out the plane, which can be the opposite of what you're trying to do.

Horizon uses some kind of weird white glue, but hot glue works just fine to install servos in a new wing. Just be sure to keep all the glue (and the spiderweb strings) away from the gears on the servos.

Yes you can.
If you go on line to Horizon Hobby and look at the AS3X Reciever there is a download for the directions that will walk you through the adjustment process. You can print this out to keep for a handy reference.
Make sure you keep your travel adjustments at 125% on your TX.

I don't know of any way to adjust the sensitivity of the AS3X feature of the AS6410NBL receiver in the UMX Sbach 342 3D. Ensure you are giving the AS3X feature enough time to initiate. Once you move the throttle slightly to start the process, wait at least 5 seconds to allow it to initiate. The receiver's AS3X feature is off by default. The BNF planes have this activated. If you somehow lost the setting and it defaulted to off, you must turn it back on with SPMA3060, a USB interface, to reprogram it. It requires downloading some software to reprogram the AS3X. It is somewhat complicated and I would recommend contact with Horizon customer service.

"All adjustments to the type and amount of stability you want the system to provide can be made using LED indicators on the receiver and your transmitter’s control sticks."So you would have to refer to your manual, and figure out how to do the adjustment to your specifications..I hope this helped you out..Thanks

This model doesn't support Aileron Differential, because it mounts a AS3X board, even if the ailerons are in separate connectors.
The old UMX Sbach 342 supports that setup - no AS3X borad.

mine is a bit twitchy in high winds at high speeds. mine gets better when i put a nice new prop on. make sure the prop adapter is screwed on evenly to the motor, then throttle her up and look at your blade tracking, mine twitchyness was greatly reduced with perfect tracking on the prob. also make sure your push rod isnt slipping threw the control horn on the rudder, mine would slip and get stuck in flight, then right itself usually on landing, i just bent it so it could slip.

It chatters quit a bit but that's normal. The foam is so light that the slightest movement causes the gyro to react. My umx beast also chatters. No you cannot disable the as3x system and you would not want to. It would make it more unstable seeing how the gyro keeps it level. You would be constantly correcting the plane in flight.

Airframe wise the SBach 3D is identical to the original SBach, the 3D just includes the AS3X stabilization system. This allows the 3D to be much more stable and "locked in" feeling over the original SBach.

Battery Connection for UMX SBACH 342 3D
I purchased the UMX SBACH 342 3D and cannot wait to fly it. I had it shipped to S. Korea where I live and purchase a LiPo battery here in S. Korea. The SBACH battery uses a mini style JST connector. The same connector is used for both balance charging and for powering the flight system. It is best to look for the specific battery designed for this plane. The prices for the E-Flite batteries are very reasonable. An additional note, I would not suggest you go any larger than the recommended battery as this will adversely affect the performance of the plane. I have the original SBACH and it has amazing performance with the stock battery and excellent duration..

We look to be shipping the UMX Sbach in the middle of the October. It's always a good idea to put in a backorder since popular items go fast, so you may want to consider that if you are a big Sbach fan.

Keep in mind that dates can change due to numerous factors, but we should be seeing this little plane very soon!
