Customer questions and answers for E-flite DSM2 6 Ch Ultra Micro AS3X Receiver BL ESC

Question
Is it possible to turn off the as3x in this receiver.
I installed this receiver in the um corsair. It flys great with tons of power but the plane vibrates in flight no matter what plane I program in the software for the USB interface. I can't figure out how to just turn off the as3x.

Sorry but there is not an option to turn of the AX3S. Is it possible that the vibration is being caused by a bent prop shaft or a prop that is out of balance causing the AS3X to react to the vibration.

I had a similar problem with one of these modules about 1 year ago. I contacted Horizon Hobbies and was told that AS3X could not be disabled. I am not sure if it was the same module. I suggest you contact Horizon at 877-504-0233 or through their website at: https://horizonhobby.quickbase.com/db/bghj7ey8c?a=GenNewRecord

Yes. But you have to do it by adjusting the gain of each of 3 axes (elevator, airleron, rudder) down to 0%. Factory default is around 70%.

There is no way to turn AS3X off from the transmitter.

Unfortunatly all AS3X products are set as default to on . Early in its conseption they tried variable rate and on/off configurations with little success :( I hated it at first and I still think thats why my "The Beast" UMX died but they have since ironed out the kinks and Ive learned to love it . Keep in mind
YOUR stick movements are not effected by the system it only kicks in when your flying with the sticks centered . In other words all it does is make the plane feel like a larger scale plane by counteracting wind and turbulance , it also is like having "dihedral" bc it returns the plane to its flat position.

Give it a try and try forgetting about it and I think you will like it . sure it jitters and shakes while your holding the plane but its making thousands of tiny calculations way faster than the human hand/eye coordination can .

Thanks Winkdogg

As far as I know you "CAN NOT" shut the AS3x technology off in the receiver. It sounds like to me there may be other issues, such as bad or incomparable servos, or a prop that's VERY out of balance. Or the actual receiver could be bad, or it not programmed correctly The plane SHOULD NOT shake. If ANYTHING, that receiver should make the aircraft MORE stable and definitely NOT shake.

I would recommend contacting the technical support people at Horizon.

Good luck,
David

You don't have to buy one. Just take any plug designed to fit into rc recivers , moters ect. Cut the wire about 4" from the plug. Then connect the Yellow and black wires together ignore red wire. You have made a binding plug.

Eflite/Horizon tech told me NONE is required!
Page 5 of manual first step says refer to your unique TX instructions for binding procedure. What a painful trip!
I fashioned a connector from JST sockets (squeezed them down) removed the canopy and used the outer two (of four) pins.
Servo plugs are too big (previous attempt to answer my question).

After plugging in the battery to the receiver, wait about 5 seconds. The LED on the receiver will begin to flash. The receiver is now in bind mode.

You can then use the steps specific to your transmitter to put the transmitter in bind mode and bind the transmitter to the receiver.

This AS3X receiver has the servos installed on the board. You most likely will want the one with plugs for the external servos. Which is SPMAS6410NBL. This would be an acceptable replacement receiver for the Stryker.

You should be able to swap out the receiver with minimal difficulty. You would need to separate the fuse on the seam, disconnect control wires and servos as necessary and remove the receiver. Place the new one in and reconnect everything you disconnected from the original receiver. Bind to your transmitter and fly.

Question
Beast and Flaps - DX6i and EFLU4864 receiver (AS3X)
As this receiver has six channels, is there any possibility to program flaps with a DX6i transmitter? So far, both servos work inverted one toward the other when I use the flap swith (DUALAILERON activated), same with any mixing involving ailerons servos as flaperons with MIX1.
Thanks for your kind attention to my question, this Beast is really awesome.

First you will need to make sure that your aileron servos are plugged into the receiver correctly. First, ensure that the lead from the left aileron servo is plugged into the Aux 1 (channel 6) port, which is the port closest the the corner of the receiver board. The lead from the right aileron servo should be plugged into the channel 2 port, which is located just below the Aux 1 port.

Next, you will need to program the receiver to function in dual aileron mode. To Change CH6 to a Reversed CH2 for Dual Ailerons or Reversed CH2 to CH6
1. Ensure the receiver and transmitter are bound
2. Turn the transmitter on
3. Move the THRO stick to the full throttle position
4. Move the Control sticks to [Full throttle, Up Elevator, Left Aileron] to change between the available options (see image)
5. Hold this position and plug the battery into the receiver
6. The LED on the receiver will turn solid within 5 seconds and the LED will
fl ash 3 times, indicating the option is now changed
7. Disconnect the battery from the receiver
8. Turn the transmitter off

Finally, you will want to go into the Setup List of your transmitter, find Wing Tail Mix menu, and set DUALAIL to "ACT" (active). At this point, to make the flaperons active, you will then need to go into the Flaps menu from the Adjust List, and adjust the travel for the flaperons.

At this point, turn on the plane and verify that everything is working in the correct directions. After that is confirmed, it is advised to rebind to your plane in order to reset your failsafe positions.

answer 2
Thierry,

Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to your question about the DX6i. However, I thought I'd let you know that AS3X does not support dual-channel ailerons. In dual-channel aileron mode, AS3X is active on only one aileron. Because of this, dual-channel aileron mode is not recommended on AS3X-equipped planes.

In a sense yes it will return the plane to the additude it was in when the system was armed so if you let off the controls the control surfaces will return to there center points , however if the plane is in a dive it will continue to dive thats the mail difference between AS3X and SAFE or other self stabilizing systems .

In one spec sheet, it is listed as a 2.0 amp speed controller, but another doc lists as a 5.0 amp unit. The safer of the two is to assume 2.0 amp, possibly continuous, with bursts up to 5.0, definitely not 5 sustained.

Question
Can the EFLU4864 be used as a drop in replacement for the PKZU2164 in the UM P-51D with a BL 180

EFLU4864 can be used as a drop in replacement to the extent of my knowledge, but it will require a 2S battery instead of a 1S battery (you can put 2 1Sers in parallel if you like...they have a harness for that in the UMX beast parts).

Native orientation is horizontal.

A better way to go brushless would be to install an external BL ESC (3A or so...I got one used off of rcgroups for cheap). The AR6410 has a signal port for external ESCs that works quite well (you can find a wiring diagram online for it).

My UMX BEAST 3D flies very well but why needs this plane 6 channels. Now I try to combine a 3g gyro (suitable for heli and plane) with a 4 channel A400 receiver for a plane. Do I miss something and do I need a 6 channel receiver?
